چکیده

Primary tumors of the left atrium are uncommon in dogs and tumor-specific diagnoses have been made only at necropsy. No reports have been found in which the diagnosis was confirmed antemortem and the tumor removed surgically. This report describes a case of obstructive paraganglioma in the left atrium of a dog and long-term survival after surgical removal of most of the tumor using cardiopulmonary bypass. Subsequently, scintigraphy demonstrated the presence of somatostatin receptors in residual tumor in the left atrium. The latter technique may be of value in establishing a definitive diagnosis in future cases of chemodectoma, extraadrenal paraganglioma, or adrenal paraganglioma (phechromocytoma). Reference values of M-mode echocardiographic parameters and indices in conscious Labrador Retriever dogs

Breed-wise standard echocardiographic values in dogs have been reported as there is variation in body and chest conformation which limits the application of data of one breed for other breed. Labrador Retrievers being originated from hunting dogs, might have different echocardiographic values from standard normal range of other dog breeds. So, the present study was aimed to determine the M-mode...

Echocardiography and surgery in a dog with left atrial rupture and hemopericardium.

Endocardial splitting and left atrial rupture were diagnosed in a dog with mitral regurgitation that experienced the sudden onset of collapsing episodes, weakness, depression, labored breathing, and weak pulses. Thoracic radiographs showed a rounded cardiac silhouette with prominent left atrium consistent with hemopericardium due to left atrial rupture. Two-dimensional echocardiography confirme...

Diastolic left ventricular functional indices: Comparison between gated myocardial perfusion SPECT and echocardiography

Introduction: Many patients have only diastolic dysfunction without any abnormality in systolic function. We compared cardiac diastolic parameters obtained by gated myocardial perfusion SPECT (Gated SPECT) with those evaluated by echocardiography. Methods: Forty-nine patients (aged 37-85 years, 19 males and 30 women) underwent Gated SPECT and echocardiogr...

11In-Labeled Platelet Scintigraphy and Two-Dimensional Echocardiography for Detection of Left Atrial Appendage Thrombi

"'In-labeled platelet scintigraphy and two-dimensional echocardiography were performed in 40 dogs to determine the ability of the two techniques to detect left atrial appendage thrombi. Thrombi were induced in 33 dogs that were classified into two groups, "acute" or "chronic," according to the time of labeled-platelet injection after thrombus induction. In the acute group (17 dogs), platelets w...
